Project Overview.

A new build, 8,872m² aeroplane hangar and logistics warehouse with three-storey office accommodation, built on the airside boundary of Bournemouth Airport.

About the project.

The ground conditions of the site were not favourable (comprising of compressible river terrace deposits), therefore piled foundations with the use of a technique known as Rapid Impact Compaction was used, to improve the soils for the high loads required to the ground floor concrete slab.

The building was constructed using a steel portal frame with insulated external metal wall and roof cladding together with a 44m wide x 9m high airside sliding hangar door.

Due to the close proximity to the Airports radar, the Southern elevation external materials had to be non-metallic with the window / fenestration installed at a 5 degree angle to the main elevation.

The development also incorporated an aeroplane concrete apron, which is open airside and a logistics service yard with ramped access dock levellers, a self-contained foul drainage treatment plant and 123 car parking spaces.
