Project overview.

This project was the second phase of works related to these theatres with us having previously completed enabling works in the plant room above as a previous contract.

About the project.

The works involved the complete strip out and refurbishment of two existing operating theatres and the works included:

  • Complete strip out of walls, finishes and services
  • New fire compartmentation in metal stud partition
  • New finishes including floors ceilings decorations with specialist paint finishes and new specialist medical units and cabinetry
  • New m and e services
  • Specialist and state of the art lighting and monitoring equipment
  • Provision of services for and the installation of an IORT machine, allowing the trust to be able to offer one of the few intraoperative radiation therapy facilities in the country

From the outset the need to work within the agreed programme was paramount to ensure minimal disruption to the hospitals operating lists and our team together with our sub-contractors worked extremely hard to ensure this was met.

Working within the theatres corridors and adjacent to other working operating theatres also presented numerous challenges regarding ensuring safe access and egress for arisings and materials as well as ensuring that our work areas were suitably screened and dustproof to prevent transmission of any dust arising from our works.

All of the works required very close liaison with the clients project team and in turn with the staff in the adjacent theatres and could not have been carried out without a truly collaborative approach from everyone involved.
