Project overview.

The external re-cladding of a SCOLA school block (X Block) that included the removal of the façade from the building. We installed structural steel brackets and framework onto the existing columns and a secondary framing system (Metsec), to this.

About the project.

The building was then clad with cementitious boards and rigid insulation. New powder coated aluminium framed, double glazed windows and doors were fitted and a mixture of brick slips (Gebrik) and render finishes were applied to complete the facade.

The roof works incorporated an extended parapet over the new frame and insulated render. This included forming a new timber framed parapet clad with ply and finished with Bauder felt system approved by Hampshire County Council.

There was also extensive roof repairs to failing areas of the roof. The site team had to ascertain the failing areas of the roof through electrical testing, strip back and renewing. This was inclusive of flashes, hips and upstands. There were also several new roof lights and domes cut into the roof as part of the project scope.

The scheme was carried out in several ‘mini’ phases allowing the school to stay live. A key driver for the Client and the reason for the project teams success was the ability to maintain programme dates. This allowed seamless rotation of the classrooms with zero impact to the academic teaching of the pupils.
