PROJECT: New Build Yellow Dot Nursery, Chilworth, Southampton
Brymor are pleased to have recently completed another successful project within Southampton Science Park. This interesting project, with great design features, was undertaken for Yellow Dot Nursery. The project involved the construction of a new single story day nursery valuing £1 million.
The front of the scheme is primarily cedar clad, with render highlighting the entrance. Brick is used on elevations facing onto play spaces which are prone to wear and tear. Classroom windows are at varying heights, providing views at all eye levels and, adjacent to the entrance, the window surround forms a low bench.
As well as the above aspects to the scheme there were many eco improvements tailored into the scope of works including; air source heat pump feeding the underfloor heating and to supplement the hot water system for the building. Movement sensors to all lighting to save energy. Bat boxes. External hard surfaces of asphalt and block paving have all been constructed with porous materials to allow surface water to drain back into the ground without the use of traditional soakaways.

"We attended the open evening at the Nursery on Tuesday, and there was much praise expressed for the project by both Yellow Dot and their guests. It was very nice to get so many positives from an opening.”

PROJECT: Extension and Re-cladding of Wootey School, Alton
Brymor have now completed another rewarding Education Project at Wootey School, Alton on behalf of Hampshire County Council. The project involved a new extension to the existing building together with re-cladding works which involved the phased sectional dismantling of the existing Scola cladding and its replacement with thermally broken aluminium windows and panels.
The extension now provides a New Community Building on the schools site providing vital services for the local community and an accessible, affordable venue for local community activities and groups.
Working within this particular environment between the occupied Infant and Junior School meant open communications and a strong working relationship between the school and the construction team was vital to ensure the project was competed to the highest standard with minimal disruption to everyday activities.

“In addition to the excellent construction of a new community facility, Brymor were also contracted to re-clad the entire Infant School, provide an extensive canopy for two Reception classes and re-model the main entrance to the school. I am delighted with the service we have received from Brymor from the initial pre-contract meeting to the signing off meeting. All Brymor staff with whom I had liaised with have upheld Brymor’s commitment to ‘Building Excellence’ through ‘integrity and open communications. Thank you for the personal touch and quality construction. I will and indeed already have recommended the company to other Headteachers without reservation”.

PROJECT: Newton Preparatory School, London
£1.1 Million Project completed in just 7 weeks
After a short tender period and an intense lend-in period, Brymor started work on the refurbishment of Newton Preparatory School, London worth £1.1 Million.
''This exciting and prestigious project is part of the schools improvement programme to enhance the schools existing facilities. This phase was to refurbish the existing Library, ICT Suites, Science Laboratories and staff offices.
The Library was redesigned to incorporate suite purpose made shelving to house the schools large range of books and computer facilities. The Science Laboratories were relocated and redesigned to allow specialist lecture tiered seating with a centre teaching point, along with several ''practical points'' with all the latest facilities which have been designed to meet the schools requirements.
The existing parquet flooring which ran throughout all the areas were covered over with a mixture of vinyl and carpet to suit the acoustic needs of each area, and to enhance the specific activities that take place within that particular area. The ceilings were replaced with a free hanging Ecophon design including wing detail. All areas had new IT points and the latest IT facilities, new high spec lighting as well as new heating systems. All doors were also replaced with ash doors.''
This exciting project was extremely fast-track and was constructed in line with a 7 week construction programme, including evening, night and weekend works. This intense schedule was essential to ensure to this challenging scheme was completed on time and too budget. With the programme being so intense our client took great care in deciding which contractor was suitable for the job and after numerous discussions and interviews Brymor were selected, for not only their wealth of experience and knowledge in fast-track refurbishments but for their teamwork approach and positive attitude.
The success of this project together with the pace and quality of the workmanship was down to the careful management and teamwork approach from Brymor’s dedicated project team consisting of; Andrew Tull Operations Director, Trevor Horsham Contract Manager, Jonathan Gough Contract Surveyor, Gary Edmonds Project Manager, Eddie Walker Site Manager and our experienced, approved subcontractors and suppliers.

PROJECT: Pilgrims’ School, Winchester
75th Anniversary Project
Brymor carried out an exciting project at The Pilgrims’ School in Winchester to extend an existing classroom building and add a new classroom building, multi-use block I.T, workshop and changing facilities. The added feature to this exciting new build scheme was the provision of a five lane, 20 metre outdoor heated swimming pool.
The project valued £2.25 million.
Statement from School Bursar:
“The selection of the right Contractor for our 75th Anniversary project was always going to be critical because the demand on the chosen company would be very high. The timetable was tight; the project had to be completed under one year to enable the new pre-prep school to open on time. The site was challenging because of the lack of access and the need to crane every piece of material on and off site over medieval walls. The quality of the building needed to be high to meet the exact requirements of the planning consent; building on a Grade 1 listed site adjacent to Winchester Cathedral, Winchester College and Wolvesey Palace, we needed a company who could produce modern school buildings using green oak, handmade bricks and tiles with lime pointing and highly detailed architectural requirements.
I am delighted to say that Brymor have met all three demands very well. The development has been completed to programme, the detail is first class and has achieved all the School had hoped for, and the logistics of the build have been achieved by a first rate project team. Their cooperation with the client, and their flexible approach has ensured a building that the school, the Company and Winchester Close can be proud of.”

PROJECT: Wide Lane, Southampton
Design and Build of Sports Pavilion
This design and build scheme consisted of a two-storey sports pavilion including new changing facilities, a meeting room, bar, steward's accommodation and kitchens. With the exception of the fitted kitchen, all interior decoration and fit-outs were undertaken by Brymor.
This prestigious project valued £2,700,000 and was undertaken on behalf of The University of Southampton.

PROJECT: Priory School, Southsea
Build of a Tennis Centre and Dance Studio
This £3.1 million project was an exciting scheme for Brymor to undertake and be apart of. The project team selected for this scheme felt privileged to be involved and worked in partnership with the client and the clients chosen project team to complete this project to the highest possible standard.
The works comprised of the construction of a new build tennis centre and dance studio and the amalgamation of these to the existing structure of the school buildings, which were also remodeled and refurbished accordingly. The works involved several major structural changes, including the removal of supporting columns. Our Project Team worked extremely hard alongside Portsmouth City Council to develop the detailed design.
The build principally involved a steel frame portal span for the tennis centre and traditional construction for the adjacent dance studio, careers centre and offices. Together with the refurbishment of existing buildings, Brymor and Portsmouth City Council have transformed a run-down school facility into a world class sports centre with modern facilities for the use of the school, general public and, hopefully future tennis champions.
On the back of the projects success, Brymor’s Project Manager was nominated at the CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Awards 2007, and walked away highly commended.
